A mountain lion has been spotted in the Dallas area. Big cat sightings are rare in North Texas, but this one was caught on camera. The Dallas Morning News released an article about the sighting on November 30th. In it they say:
“For those who have long pooh-poohed the idea of a mountain lion roaming around North Texas, chew on this. A Rowlett woman recently posted on her Facebook page a trail camera video of a mountain lion walking down a dirt road at night. The spooky image showed a big cat with a long tail that touched the ground, a feature that distinguishes it from a bobcat for which the mountain lion is commonly mistaken.”
There has never been a confirmed mountain lion sighting in Dallas according to a Kiro 7 News article published on December 1st. In it they say:
“According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, there had never been a documented appearance of the big cat in Dallas County, KTVT reported. ‘I thought it was a bobcat at first but then I was like, ‘Man, that is way too big to be a bobcat,’ Higgins told KXAS.
Higgins posted the video on her Facebook page with the caption, ‘Big kitty in the city,’ according to the Morning News.”
The current whereabouts of this rare big cat are unknown, but it’s likely still in the area despite being far from home.
