McPlants in DFW

Dallas Fort-Worth will be getting a once in a while treatment as Mcdonald’s plans to sell all meat burgers on Valentine’s Day according to a Fox 4 News article from January 20 which says,

“After testing out its McPlant burger at select U.S. locations – two of which were in North Texas – McDonald’s is expanding its test to about 600 locations in two U.S. metro areas, including hundreds of locations here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

McDonald’s started testing the plant-based burger at eight U.S. restaurants, including one in Irving and another in Carrollton, last November.

Starting on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, the McPlant testing will be expanded to include hundreds of Dallas-Fort Worth McDonald’s locations.”

However, the McPlant, created to pave the way for meat-free movement, has already been in the market for quite some time already in different countries and selected cities in the US according to a Dallas Morning News article from January 20 which reports,

“It’s the golden-arched company’s answer to adding a meatless burger to its menu — an effort that nearly every other fast-food burger joint in America has done, to stay relevant. Meat-free products are still a slim sector of the food industry, Vox reports, but the numbers are growing.

The McPlant is designed to look and taste like a beef burger, but without the meat. It’s cooked on a grill and topped with onions, pickles, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, mayo, mustard and American cheese, on McDonald’s signature sesame-seed bun.

The McPlant patty is vegan but the entire sandwich is not: Vegans would want to remove the cheese and mayo to make it animal-free. Careful eaters should also note that the McPlant patties are cooked on the same grills as beef burgers.”

10 Mcdonald’s stores in Texas however, will not be serving McPlants but the reason as to why weren’t given out. Additionally, the McDonal’s has yet to release details regarding the number of McPlants that were sold in Texas dating few weeks back as part of the dry run.
