Back in 2017, the internet was introduced to Nusret Gocke, better known as “salt bae” when he went viral for his cooking videos where he creatively flourishes salt to season his dishes. Gocke was looking into Dallas as a possible expansion site as early as 2018 according to an Eater article from December 2019. In t they say:
“Back in October of 2018, Eater first reported that Gokce was scoping out locations in Dallas for his steakhouse, and he ultimately landed at the fancy high-rise building at 1900 Pearl Street in the Dallas Arts District. It seems like Salt Bae’s arrival in Dallas has been a little bit delayed — in April of this year, a sales tax permit was filed for the restaurant, and a ‘help wanted’ ad on Facebook indicated that it was expected to open sometime in ‘summer 2019.’ ”
Those plans have since been heavily delayed. Another Eater article from October 2020 reported that the restaurant was set to open in November of last year.
“After nearly three years in the works, virally popular steakhouse Nusr-Et is finally preparing for its Dallas debut. A representative from the restaurant was a little cagey on the details but told Eater that the restaurant is set to open its doors at 1900 Pearl Street by November 16, though the opening could happen a week earlier, on November 9. Job listings posted to Indeed and other hiring websites indicate that Nusr-Et is currently staffing up for its debut, hiring everything from front-of-house staffers to line cooks and a sommelier.”
It didn’t open in November. Still, “Salt Bae” is optimistic and said in that article that the restaurant was opening very soon.
