COOKE COUNTY, TX – Three people were killed on August 3, 2009 north of Denton, Texas when an 18-wheeler crashed into four other vehicles in a construction zone on Interstate 35 at FM 1306. The accident happened just south of Gainesville, TX.
The driver of the semi – identified as 59-year-old James Crayton of Dallas, Texas – apparently failed to slow down for traffic in the construction zone.
Two of the victims, Carol Whaley, 63, and Linda Whaley, 61,were taken by air ambulance to hospitals in critical condition.
All northbound lanes of I-35 remained closed for hours while investigators pieced together what happened and cleared the wreckage.
