17-year-old Kernell Slack wins a contest held in Dallas to redesign the classic “I Voted” sticker according to a Dallas Morning News article which reports,
“Kernell Slack isn’t old enough to vote yet, but his prints are all over Dallas’ polling places.
The 17-year-old Townview student won a contest to revamp the classic “I Voted” sticker that shows up in now-ubiquitous Election Day selfies. His design features a version of the city skyline, framed by the words: “I VOTED. YOU CAN TOO.””
The purpose of the content was to encourage residents to vote by helping them feel more connected and engaged in the voting process according to a Dallas Examiner article. They say,
“As part of a get out the vote initiative, March to the Polls, in partnership with the Dallas County Elections Department, Raise Your Hand Texas and The Dallas Examiner, recently held a contest for local residents to redesign the “I Voted” sticker that voters wear after they participate in a Dallas County election.
The purpose of the contest was to help people feel more connected to voting and the voting process.
Camila Correa Bourdeau, executive director for MTTP, said her group wanted to get the word out about showing up to the polls and make voting cool.”
Kernell says he’ll be voting for politicians who take climate change seriously when he’s old enough. Right now, he is involving himself in the democratic process.
