As the pandemic rages on and states scramble to get a hold of vaccine doses, some good news for Texas breaks as the state is expected to get more vaccine doses according to a KHOU article from January 23rd. In it they say:
“The state of Texas will receive 332,750 first doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the federal government next week. The Texas Department of State Health Services has instructed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ship those doses to 212 providers across Texas. That includes 82 hub providers that will focus on larger community vaccination efforts and 130 additional providers as Texas continues to vaccinate health care workers, residents of long-term care facilities, people 65 and older and those with medical conditions that put them at greater risk of hospitalization and death from COVID-19.”
For Dallas specifically, the doses are making their way to the Fair Park mega Site according to an NBC 5 DFW article from January 18th. In it they say:
“Frustration continued Monday around Dallas County’s COVID-19 vaccination mega-site. Dallas County resident Giovanni Valderas lives in a largely immigrant community and said many of his neighbors have no idea what to do when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine.
‘I think when it comes down to vaccinations, just mass confusion,’ Valderas said. ‘And that, on top of the immigrant community, which I’m a part of and I’ve grown up in, there’s been really a large lack of outreach to really target that area.’
Many questioned why Dallas’ Fair Park vaccination mega-site shut down on MLK Day when many of its target residents would’ve been off work. Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said it comes down to supply.
‘We only have 6,000 vaccines left for the whole week. We’ll probably run out Friday or Saturday of next week, so we gave our people the day off,’ . . . Jenkins said the site will receive 9,000 news vials next week. Valderas, who already lost a father figure to the virus, said he was concerned people in his community won’t get one.”
Despite all the chaos surrounding vaccine doses, at least more doses are on the way.
