McKinney’s Wilson Creek Trail, the sole Texas addition to the National Trails System this year, offers a diverse 10-mile route connecting parks and amenities, according to a Dallas Morning News article. They say,
“McKinney’s Wilson Creek Trail was the only trail in Texas to join the National Trails System this year, making it part of a network of more than 1,300 existing national recreation trails.
The 10-mile trail system that connects Bonnie Wenk Park to Towne Lake Park provides access to amenities like playgrounds, a disc golf course and an outdoor fitness court. It also connects to various local parks, ponds, natural areas and includes a 0.44-mile dog park loop.”
With over 85% of McKinney residents prioritizing trail expansion, the city’s focus remains on connecting and improving the network for community unity and recreation, according to a Dallas Innovates article which reports,
“A recent McKinney citizen survey showed that more than 85% of residents said expanding and connecting the city’s hike and bike trail system was a priority in maintaining McKinney’s high quality of life, the city said.
“We believe that our trails network can serve as the great connector within our community,” Kowski added. “Residents and visitors alike will be happy to know that we will continue to focus our resources on expanding and improving this system throughout the community to unite people and places in unique ways.”
Wilson Creek Trail, now part of the national system, offers diverse experiences. The National Park Service praises its accessibility for urban recreation.
