McKinney National Airport had just finished a deal with Cirrus Aircraft which will develop the airport for $9 million according to a Dallas Morning News article from December 2 which reports,
“The skies around McKinney National Airport could soon become busier as one of the airport’s tenants plans to spend millions to expand its operations.
Cirrus Aircraft, a Duluth, Minn.-based aircraft manufacturer, is growing its presence in North Texas with a 47,771-square-foot expansion of its facility at McKinney National Airport and the addition of an innovation center to support product development and engineering teams.
The company is developing plans for an expanded factory service center at the airport and expects to break ground early next year, with completion anticipated in early 2023. The facility will offer flight training programs and concierge-style aircraft management in addition to maintenance services.
The estimated cost of the project is $9 million, according to planning documents filed with the state.”
Cirrus has been going with big developments within the company which not only made them look for more workers but also made them seek more space for their aircrafts according to a News Tribune article from November 19 which reports,
“Cirrus is in immediate need of both more space and more workers, said Ben Kowalski, vice president of marketing.
“We are looking at several different options to expand our capacity to produce aircraft,” he said, acknowledging that the maintenance base is under consideration by company management.
Kowalski said Cirrus is currently looking to fill about 200 positions, including more than 130 in Duluth. The company also has pre-assembly production in Grand Forks, North Dakota, as well as research, training and delivery facilities around the nation.
Earlier this year, Cirrus reported it employed about 1,900 people company-wide, with most of its workforce (1,300 employees) based in Duluth, where its headquarters remain. The company is owned by a subsidiary of China-based AVIC.”
The company sought McKinney for its business friendly environment and proximity of Cirrus owners in the area.
