The 26th annual back-to-school fair in Dallas returned to Fair Park according to an NBC-DFW article which reports,
“Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is gearing up to host the 26th annual Mayor’s Back to School Fair on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at Fair Park.
The event provides Dallas students and families who pre-registered for the event with essential school supplies, valuable services, and other resources free of charge.”
“It is great to be back in person,” said Johnson. “This is a great event but it’s at its best when people can actually be together in person, it’s also convenient to be indoors given the temperatures – we’re pretty happy about that too.”
Officials, non-profit organizations, and churches from different cities help out in the back-to-school events throughout the month according to a Dallas Morning News article. They say,
“Dream Center Dallas’ annual Back to School Event will provide Dallas children with free shoes and about 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. The event begins at 10 a.m on Aug. 6 at 1900 S. Ewing Ave. while supplies last. The event will feature carnival games, prizes and snacks.
At Arlington ISD’s Back to School Kickoff event, 10,000 backpacks stuffed with school supplies will be available for families who are eligible for free and reduced lunches at school. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Aug. 6 at AT&T Stadium. The event includes haircuts, dental and health screenings, booths with information about available community resources and immunization opportunities. Families can register for the event early.
The back to school giveaway at the Paul Laurence Dunbar Lancaster-Kiest Branch Library will provide free supplies to students. The event starts at 12 p.m. on Aug. 6 at 2008 E. Kiest Blvd. Kids must be present to receive supplies.”
The fair will be available to pre-registered families who meet certain income requirements and federal guidelines.
