Due to the delay caused by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the program hadn’t started on time according to an NBC 5 DFW article from April 14th. In it they say:

“The city of Dallas launched its program Monday to get homebound residents vaccinated against COVID-19 after a brief postponement.

Though the city planned to provide in-home vaccinations to immobile residents using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the program is now taking place using the two-dose Moderna vaccine due to the federal pause of the vaccine.”

The program is part of a larger effort to get the vaccine to vulnerable communities in Dallas according to a Dallas Morning News article from April 21st. In it they say:

“The program is the next step in the goal to vaccinate vulnerable residents and comes three months after Dallas County’s vaccine hub opened at Fair Park in South Dallas. Initial efforts to inoculate Black and Latino people in the county had fallen short, complicated by transportation issues and internet access because of an online registration system.
