A historic Dallas property has been sold to owners who vowed to preserve the property according to a Dallas Morning News article published on December 10th. In it they say:
“Because of the size of the lot, preservationists had worried that a buyer would demolish the two-story house designed by Texas architect David Reichard Williams. Now, local philanthropists, Trevor and Jan Rees-Jones are buying the historic property and say they plan to maintain the house. ‘I’ve sold it to someone who is going to keep it,’ top Dallas-area sales agent Allie Beth Allman said. ‘It is a great asset to our community that it is saved.’”
The house has been a fixture in Dallas for many, many years and has historical significance according to an NBC 5 DFW article published on December 11th. In it they say:
“The house was dubbed ‘The Most Important House in Texas’ in the recently published book called ‘A House for Texas.’ On Thursday evening, the historic house, located at 3805 McFarlin Boulevard in University Park, went under contract to Jan and Trevor Rees-Jones. The sellers of the house, Locke family, have owned the home since 1955. According to the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society, the house had been listed by Allie Beth Allman since late 2019. The house came to the attention of PCHPS as an endangered historic treasure because it was a likely candidate for demolition due to its size and location.”
Thankfully, demolition has been avoided and the house will be left standing, and preserved by its new owners.
