The crisis gripping Texas cannot be overstated in any way. Recently, the situation in lone star state has even gotten attention from the White House according to a February 18 article from The Hill. In it they say:
“A Dallas official said Thursday that the White House has called him to offer assistance during the unprecedented winter storm hitting Texas, but he has not heard from Gov. Greg Abbott (R). ‘I haven’t heard from the governor. I haven’t heard from any of the state leaders throughout this. We have been doing the best we can. We have heard from the White House,’ Judge Clay Jenkins, the chief executive of Dallas County, told MSNBC.”
More close to home, the Dallas Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund is now accepting donations to help offset some of the unexpected costs this catastrophe has brought with it according to a CBS 21 DFW article from February 18th. In it they say:
“The Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund was initially created to help the city shelter Hurricane Katrina refugees in 2005.
The money in the fund can only be used in the event of a federally declared disaster in Dallas.
The entire state of Texas received a federal disaster declaration for the winter storm from President Joe Biden on Sunday, Feb. 14.”
With the staggering number of households deeply affected, the fund needs all the support it can get.
