Harwood International’s flagship hotel, Hôtel Swexan, will open in 2023 in Dallas’ Harwood District, blending Texan charm with European flair, according to a D Magazine article which says,
“Harwood International will open its first hotel property in 2023. Located in the Harwood District in Uptown at Mckinnon and Olive streets near The Crescent, the new hotel is Harwood Hospitality Group’s flagship hotel, promising “the confluence of Texan charm and international European flair.”
Named Hôtel Swexan, the moniker comes from the blend of Swiss and Texan cultures—a nod to Harwood International’s multi-generational Swiss-Texan heritage. Harwood’s founder, Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, before moving to Texas in 1979 to pursue a career in real estate: first at Henry S. Miller brokerage company and then setting out on his own, founding his own firm.”
Uptown’s Harwood District will see the addition of a new boutique hotel, Hotel Swexan, designed by Kengo Kuma, blending Swiss and Texan influences, according to a Paper City Mag article. In it they report,
“Developer Gabriel Barbier-Mueller’s reshaping of Uptown and the Harwood District goes back five decades, but the next few months will see the Harwood Hospitality Group doubling its restaurant offerings in the gleaming city-within-a-city, and adding a neighborhood first: a brand new flagship boutique hotel property, Hotel Swexan, opening in the summer of 2023.
The 22-story building will be designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who is also responsible for the neighboring twisted Rolex tower (another Harwood International property) on the corner of North Harwood and Moody Street. As for “Swexan,” the name is a moniker for “Swiss meets Texan,” a nod to the Harwood International founders’ multi-generational Swiss-Texan family heritage.”
Hotel Swexan will offer a steakhouse, fitness center, rooftop pool, and extensive event spaces, contributing to the creation of 500 jobs.
